Catterick Village 1 - 6 Mount Pleasant Rangers

0 Comments - Add comment Written 2 days ago by BlakemoreP

A frustrating day to be on the touchline.

Despite the scoreline, there was a 20 minute spell at the end of the first half where CV matched Mount Pleasant and showed grit and determination.

An early second half goal from Aiden brought the score to CV 1 - 4 MP, which the lads saw as some hope of more CV goals, unfortunately we let MP back into it and they scored another 2 goals to put the match way beyond us.

On the plus side, the team showed a never say die spirit that is great to see from all of you. Even at 6-1, we were still trying to attack and push forward, midfield pushing balls through to the strikers, wingers trying to get round the cak of their defence.

Unfortunately when our attacks broke down, MP were able to counter and get through our defence.

On the whole a disappointing match, but with some indications that the lads are developing as a team and this first season on TJFA, though very difficult, should be the start of a strong squad in years to come.

MOM today was George B who pushed himself all match.

Sedgefield Youth 3 : 4 Catterick Village

We've done the double over Sedgefield.

The game was end to end, a bit scrappy at times, we had an obvious penalty call ignored, tackles from behind, but the end result was another win for the CV team.

Sedgefield scored first on 9 minutes, but the lads didn't let it get to them and worked hard to both keep any more goals out but also score an equaliser.

That equaliser came at 22 minutes thanks to a goal from Callum. CV kept the pressure on and a second goal came on 32 minutes, again from Callum.

It looked like we were going to have a repeat of the first encounter where we ran out winners 4-2 (2-1 in each half) but Sedgefield had other ideas and on 32 minutes they scored an equaliser.

2-2 was ok, we thought, we can still work a winner, but then disaster struck and on 33 minutes, Sedgefield scored another, so the first half ran out 3-2 to Sedgefield.

A half time team talk was needed to fire up the lads and they responded. 9 minutes into the second half and George bagged a well needed goal putting us on level terms.

Now the pressure was on, Sedgefled kept throwing their forwards behind our back four (and conceding offsides), then out of the blue Jake got on the end of a high ball and headed a match winner past the Sedgefield goal keeper.

Sedgefield tried to get an equaliser, they changed formation to three strikers, but that left them vulnerable at the back, so we kept attacking, looking for another goal.

The continued pressure meant that they were unable to settle and equalise.

Final score Sedgefield 3 : Catterick Village 4.

Man of the Match - Declan.

Catterick Village JFC 3 - 7 Newton Aycliffe Youth

First half ended with CV on top at 2-1, thanks to a goal from George in the first five minutes and a lovely lob over the goalkeeper by Rhys.

I don't know what happened in the second half, but we conceded 6 goals but only managed to get 1 back (thanks to a penalty taken by George.)

NA managed to get round our midfield and defence and just kept punishing us for not getting the tackles in.

When we did get the ball through to the strikers, the finishing was not good enough to get the ball in the net.

Saturday training will be hard work, we need to prepare for Sunday's match against Eaglescliffe.

See you all there.

Catterick Village JFC 1 - 3 Broughton Hibs

The score didn't reflect the commitment and spirit from our lads today.

Possibly the best performance and team support for each other we've seen this season.

0-1 at half time was possibly a bit harsh, but we could lie with it considering Broughton are 2nd in the league.

0-2 flattered them, we were holding them up and causing problems for one of the top teams, including having some commendable attempts on goal.

Some suspect refereeing decisions were causing us some problems, non moreso than the 3rd goal Broughton scored.

A deflection on from the post saw the ball run behind Connor and along the goal line. Connor scooped it out but bowing to pressure from a spectator standing by the goals (a position he should not have been allowed to be in!) the ref awarded Broughton their 3rd goal.

So on whole a commendable performance from everyone. You should be pleased with the impovements you've made, and look forward to training on saturday, then Newton Aycliffe Youth on Sunday.

Cheers

6 - 0 didn't reflect this match, the goals that Tesside scored were not particularly hard won, we just didn't play our best at all.

Some individual performances were below par today, so all I'd say is we must learn from the match and go into training next Saturday fresh and meaning business for Loftus next Sunday.

Catterick Village 2-3 Wolviston FC (TJFA Challenge Cup)

The re-scheduled match was played on the full size pitch due to water on the U14 pitch.

CV relished the extra space and went about this cup tie with a workmanlike first half that was a joy to watch.

Defenders Callum T, Declan, Josh and Andy - with Connor T in goal - kept Wolviston in check and a clean sheet in the first half.

The midfield unit was made up from Aiden, Jack, Connor P and Rhys. All four linking up to make some great moves in the middle third.

Jake and George in attack, were trying to get the better of the Wolviston defence.

End to end play but with no goals meant that a half time 0-0 was the result.

CV started the second half brightly and pushed for an early goal, George obliged, 2 minutes into the second half and CV were in front.

We expected the Division 4 outfit to come straight back at us, but Aiden shocked them on 9 minutes by slotting away CV's second.

Rhys was substituted for Sam (injury).

As predicted, Wolviston didn't lie down, and came back hunting a reply to the CV two goals, their first came at about 20 minutes into the second half, then they equalised.

Andy was substituted for Mikey (Tactical).

CV were battling not only the opposition but a biting wind and rain / hail to keep Wolviston out. It was looking like we would be going to extra time, when Wolviston won a corner, the delivery was cleared but not far enough and a Wolviston player managed to get the ball in the net.

The final whistle was blown without any time for us to equalise.

It was a fantastic performance by the lads, to just lose out to a Division 4 outfit by only 3-2 is something to be proud of.

Thanks to Luke for refereeing, to all the parents for braving the awful weather.

I am really looking forward to the next league match against Teesside Athletic B, the way we are improving each week, it should be an entertaining match.

Catterick Village JFC 4 - 2 Sedgefield Youth FC

Reverting to 4-4-2, we went out meaning business and you could tell the lads had belief in themselves.

The play was end to end, the CV defence of Callum T, Declan, Callum S and Jake, working well with Connor T in goal to keep the opposition subdued, it was not easy but we worked hard.

Aiden, Jack, Connor P and Rhys were the power house in midfield feeding good balls through to strikers Scott and George.

George was first to score, 1-0 to CV.

We held Sedgefield out but they managed to squeeze past an unlucky equaliser. Only for Scott to follow getting another for CV.

HT 2-1- to CV.

Having learned by the experience of last week, we didn't let Sedgefield back into the game at the begining of the second half.

The play was fast paced, but we were slowly chipping away at the opposition, a couple of substitutions meant alot of tactical re-arranging of positions, Callum T moving to right back, Michael coming on at left back and Jake moving up to Striker for Scott - who had a brilliant first half.

With Jack sustaining an injury, coming off for Sam in Midfield - who moved to the wing and Rhys into central midfield.

Sedgefield scored the first in the second half, but Aiden got one for CV proving wingers can score as well as strikers :-)

Some close calls, with Connor appearing out a mass of Sedgefiled players with the ball in his hands, scrambles away from our goal line and penalty area clearences kept the score at 3-2, then  Aiden scored his second of the day, from a  goal line scramble.

FT  win  4-2

A brilliant first win to the season lets keep it up lads and have another 70 minutes of hard work next week from everyone. Well done : )

It took Mount Pleasant 20 minutes to break down CV, but that was the only goal of the first half.

We were playing well, getting the ball through to the stikers, but just not getting the finish.

Second half was a shock, they came out from the whistle and scored.

We battled, but couldn't get a goal. Rhys came close, but they managed to scramble it off the line.

Then Mount Pleasant put the game beyind us with a third.

We had some good play and the lads didn't give up.

final scor MP 3-0 CV

New Marske 21 - 1 Catterick Village (NRFA Junior Cup U14)

CV made the journey to New Marske ready to take on a team lying third in division 4.

We had team talk, and started the warm up. Unfortunately it started to become apparent that we were missing two players who were cutting it fine to get there for kick off.

After a last minute phone call, it transpired we were going to have to play the match with just 9 players.

Though this was a mountain of a feat to ask the lads to do, they started the game in a 4-4 formation with George acting as an attacking midfileder.

Unfortunately with only 9 players, and playing an experienced team, the goals started to to go New Marske's way.

By half time we were 10 goals down, but against all the odds, George had put one past the, - HT 10-1

The coaching staff were so impresssed by the resolve of the players to go out and enjoy the match, no matter what the score was , genuinely brought a lump to the throat.

We pressed New Marske, and rtied to stop the attacks but the extra 2 man over they had, swung it everytime. score in the second half ended 10-0

But more importantly, our lads won a sincere round of applause from the team, coaches and spectators of New Marske, when with still 15 or 20 minutes of the second half left, CV were offered an early finish due to the large score. I am so proud to say that every one of them spoke up and declered they wanted to play the full match.

Final score 21-1 but more importantly, a complete team effort, everyone played the game, and everyone deserves special mention that they played in the spirit of football, with commitment and self belief.

MOM: Connor Talbot - whose saves prevented a much bigger score against us.

Barnard Castle 2 - 0 Catterick Village

Difficult to write a report for this match, we should have won this one.

We just weren't at the races today!

I hope that this is just a blip and the squad turn it around and realise that everyone needs to put the effort in to get a win.

The team that played Loftus was a million miles away from the team that played Barnard Castle.

There was very little passing, support for the player on the ball and we were second to the ball every time.

Many were just watching the game instead of getting involved.

As Denis quite rightly said, this has got to change if we are to move up the table, which I'm sure we can.

It's time to stop being the second worse team in the Teesside League, and show what i know you can all do. Denis, Duncan and I can't do it for you on the pitch.

You have to do it for for yourselves and put the training into practice.

Lets have a full turnout on Saturday. But don't just train on Saturday - get out and practice during the week.

MOM: Callum
