Match Report - CVJFC U8s vs Harrogate Juniors

What an enjoyable afternoon of football we had for our first friendly match of the season, with some fantastic, friendly yet competitive football and superb weather.

Firstly - many thanks to all the helpers - especially Bob Thornton for marking out the pitch, the U10s coaches for having the goals up (nice surprise!) and to Philip Blakemore for kindly refereeing the first match.

Thanks also to Harrogate for making the journey and taking part in 2 great matches.

Our squad of 11 players all contributed to both matches and have certainly shown tremendous enthusiam and ability. A number of the parents/supporters have commented on how well they have come on as individuals and as a team.

Match 1) CVJFC 3 - 2 Harrogate

The first match was a 7-a-side mini-soccer game. Harrogate had the better of a keenly contested first half and were 2-0 up at half time despite some great efforts from Sam in goal. CVJFC mounted a fine come back in the second half managing to draw level with goals from Harry and Charlie. More end-to-end football followed with both teams creating chances - CVJFC going very close on a number of occasions. Josh and Jordan were a solid pair at the back - tackling and clearing well -  with Ollie putting up a strong performance in goal when Harrogate did break through. The midfield of EthanG, Harry and GeorgeL worked tirelessly to win the ball, combined well and supplied some great forward passes and it wasn't long before Charlie grabbed his second and the winning goal.

Match 2) CVJFC 0 - 1 Harrogate

The second game was played as 9-a-side and was an opportunity for a re-arranged team. GerogeH took his chance to impress at the back with a number of fine interceptions and tackles whilst Lewis and Calum took the opportunity to play up-front and threaten the opposition goal. Sam added his skillful running on the right of midfield whilst Ollie continued in goal and made a great penalty save in the first half before Jordan took over in goal for the second half. Harrogate worked hard and were rewarded with the only goal of the game - running out 1-0 winners.

It was great to see so many supporters at the match and we look forward to more friendly fixtures throughout the season.
