Costa Daurada Cup - 1st to 7th April 2023

Congratulations to all involved with the unprecedented success of the U16's Costa Daurada Cup trip.

CVJFC U16s went over to Spain with no expectations of winning, but with an aim of giving the players an experience of a lifetime: football, sunshine, making memories and bonds with teammates. A small village in North Yorkshire taking on academy teams from all over the world!

Having done themselves proud they earned the right to progress out of the group and onto the quarter finals. A 3-0 loss in the Qtr finals ended their football journey through the tournament, but at no point did they look out of their depth, in any sense.

It just shows that success in Junior football is not about winning,  individuals can create a team which is greater than the sum of its parts, thanks to ethos and team spirit. What an incredible experience for these young players and one that will bond them for a lifetime.

I am sure they will be glad to get back to playing 'proper' football in the rain on a bobbly pitch though! 🤣

They have all represented the club and themselves with maturity and professionalism, both on and off the pitch. They deserve so much credit for this and their efforts have been outstanding ever since they began fundraising. Well done to all involved but especially the coaching team of Darren Rhodes, Andy King, Mike Cooper and Paul Hankin!

I hope that their hard work and success will set a legacy for the club to see all our U16 teams complete an overseas trip, with the full support of the club and community, as we have harnessed this year. That is down to us as a club now to get behind and make happen annually.

There will be a full feature on this in the next newsletter (due at the end of April) and also opportunities to hear more at the whole club meeting, when we get together.

Happy Easter to all, James ⚽
